SERVICES - Myelography
Myelography is used for procedures
in obstetrics, gynecology and cardiology. Ultrasound imaging relies
on the computer-assisted processing of sound waves to develop images
of internal organs and the vascular system.
The Procedure:
Myelography is the term applied to radiologic examinations
of the central nervous structures within the spinal canal. Myelography’s
main application today is to demonstrate herniated intervertebral
discs.
How The Test Is Performed:
The structures within the spinal canal are visualized by introducing
a contrast medium via spinal puncture. The patient is positioned
at different angles to coat the spinal canal. After a series of
x-rays are taken, a CT scan (see page 4) is performed to complement
the myelogram procedure.
Inform The Technologist If:
• You are pregnant.
• You have iodine allergies.
Time Allotment:
Please allow 4-6 hours for this exam.
After Your Exam:
You will be given specific instructions to ensure an uneventful

to your doctor approximately 48 hours after your exam. If immediate
attention is required, your report will be faxed or called into
your doctor.

anything else that will make your experience at Tower more comfortable.
