SALEMGLOBAL CASE STUDY – LEAD GENERATION AND ECOMMERCE GARY ROME HYUNDAI & THE HYUNDAI ACCESSORY STORE
As a successful Hyundai dealer in Holyoke, MA, Gary Rome Hyundai came to Salem Global to jump-start a new revenue opportunity in selling accessories on the web.
The first task was to help build and optimize their website. Gary Rome had a web designer on staff, and SalemGlobal worked with him to optimize usability, user friendliness, and – most important - converting site visitors to product buyers. Basic principles of web page design were shared with Gary Rome – such as prominently featuring a contact phone number; showing products, not just graphics; choosing the right products to feature (high volume/high margin); and providing a convenient way to buy.
E-commerce is driven by traffic – increased traffic is a key factor in increasing sales. Once the site was designed to optimize the customer’s experience, the next task was to drive more traffic to the site. Our strategies included: Purchasing, optimizing, and linking multiple relevant domain names and marketing websites; Submission to search engines and directories; Establishing and maintaining blogs; Creating a Pay-Per-Click campaign; and Building a presence on Ebay and Froogle.
Salem Global then went beyond the Internet in developing a comprehensive marketing program.
- Radio – radio advertising is a natural for car-related sales, as drivers are a major market for radio programs and ads. It is also a natural complement to Internet campaigns – in fact, a typical radio station promotes its own website 6-10 times per hour. This kind of compounded branding leads to increased exposure in multiple media.
- Email – another natural complement to Internet campaigns, an email campaign provides an avenue to reach out to existing customers as well as prospects – with embedded one-click access to the website. Using the website, Gary Rome built a list of 1000 email addresses in six months.
- Contests and promotions – Interest and increased traffic are generated by promotions such as free Red Sox tickets to selected website visitors.
- Sponsorships – besides its intrinsic value, sponsoring charity events is good for the sense of community, and for the two types of PR (Public Relations and Page Ranking).
- Blogs – an industry-themed blog creates a sense of community, establishes the blogger as an authority, and increases Google page ranks.
RESULTS
As a new business, Gary Rome’s Internet-based accessories store’s revenue went from 0 to $30K in 6 months and resulted in $100,000 in business for 2006.
